Hollywood as a role model?
Many in the arts wouldn’t want to admit in public that Hollywood movie studios are a source of inspiration.
However, an article in yesterday’s Times caught was indeed inspiring. We’ve all known for years that movie trailers are a great way to develop an audience — and when Hollywood starts spending almost as much in online advertising I think that’s something we all should pay attention to.
For the first time, Hollywood’s major movie studios spent almost as much to market their films online last year as they spent on movie trailers, according to a statistical snapshot of the American film industry released yesterday by the Motion Picture Association of America. The report stated that companies spent about 3.7 percent of their total advertising expenditures online, compared with about 4.3 percent for trailers.
