The Future of the Web Is Video

I’ve long been an advocate of skillfully using video to market arts events. After all, showing people a snippet of an upcoming production or an interview with an artistic director is so much more compelling than a quote from a local critic. Over the past few months, I have seen more and more arts organizations beginning to move in this direction.

That said, I would suggest as a field we are not moving fast enough. I caught a recent article published by the Fortune that quoted an interview with a senior Facebook executive, who described the astonishingly fast adoption of video on Facebook.

Videos are now viewed 8 billion times daily on Facebook, up from 1 billion a year ago, Nicola Mendelsohn, Facebook’s vice president for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, said at a Fortune conference in London.

Ms. Mendelsohn, who was then quoted around the world, predicted that within five years Facebook “would probably be all video.” The data seems to suggest she’s correct in her assessment. So how much video is on your website?
