#Hashtag
(What Are They Anyway, and Who Cares?)

Today’s blog post is written by Natalie Sullivan, Marketing Assistant, Patron Technology.

Are hashtags a mystery to you? Do you shy away from using hashtags because you’re unsure of how many to use or if you should even been using them on certain social media platforms? Lucky for you, Nonprofit Hub has broken down some of the most popular hashtags and how to best utilize them to your organization’s advantage in this informative article.

At their core, hashtags are essentially “trend buttons” that can lead you to other social media users’ accounts when they post about a similar topic. Getting someone to click on your account is the first step towards getting them to follow you, which is the ultimate goal.

Now you may be wondering, “How can we as an arts organization use common hashtags like #mancrushmonday or #womancrushwednesday and make it applicable to our audience?” This is where you need to get creative! Perhaps post a picture of the lead actor or actress in one of your current productions, to promote your season. Or maybe post a picture of one of your favorite composers and engage your followers in a conversation about who their favorite composers are.

I hope you’ll read the entire article, pick out a few hashtags you want to use on a weekly basis, and get creative! If you hashtag it, they will come.
