Eventually All Technology Becomes Entertainment

I wish I could remember who it was that years ago said something like, “Eventually all technology becomes entertainment.” I thought that was pretty insightful, and I was reminded of it today when I read this article in E-marketer that talks about how people use their iPads and tablets.

By far the most significant use is watching short-form videos. If there’s any doubt that our society is moving from text to video, here is more evidence:

Does this data spark any thinking for you? How much video content do you have on your website? How much do you create around each show or performance? Do you record and post pre-theater or concert lectures?

You can test this for yourself. The next time you take a train or a plane, walk down the aisle and see how many people are watching video on their iPads. I think you’ll be amazed, and I hope, inspired.
